Many people want to have a cat and they sometimes do not know what to expect or what they should purchase for their brand new kitty or cat. My sister has had 3 cats for more than 3 years now and yes she got all 3 of them as kittens. We were as prepared as any other person and did not know what we were in for. So if you are thinking of having a kitten/cat in your life you have come to the right place.
Kittens are just like having a baby or a toddler in the house. One of the kittens my sister got was very tiny and needed a lot of care and attention since she was a newborn and did not have her mom to feed her. She needed my sister to feed her with a baby bottle actual canned kitten milk you can find at a pet store. She had to warm up the milk and feed her while being super patient and had to burp her like a baby. Since Lychee was super tiny she could not poop herself so my mom had to help her with that and clean her really well after and yes kittens get rashes in their little butt so you have to spray medicine to relieve the pain so it could get better. And no it is not cool when you spray the kitten. Baby Lychee would run away slowly cause she was still wobbly from barely starting to learn how to walk. I guess what I am trying to express is that baby newborn kittens need a lot of care and they will wake you up crying during the night just like a baby crying to be fed. Oh and one very important thing not all kitties get the idea of pooping on a litter box so a lot of patience and cleaning is involved. Lychee would just do her business on any corner of the house until she got the hang of it all. So please be patient and understanding when owning a newborn kitten.
A definite yes to buying kittens toys since they also need to play and burn off some energy. They do not even have to be expensive it could simply be chenille stems rolled into a ball or donut and they love chasing and playing with that. I remember tying a paper toy to a long ribbon and just running around with them chasing the toy. Let me just say its a workout for both parties.
Paying attention to their dietary needs is super important not all cats are the same and they will obviously eat different food. I remember Kimchi would get sick with a brand of food that his tummy was sensitive to and he would throw out so a change of food was super necessary. My sister loves to feed them healthier options so one of her favorite brands of kibble is the brand Tiki for indoor cats. She also loves the pate from the same brand and the brand Churu. And if your kitten eats too fast or eats something bad they will throw up. And guess what clean up time.
If you do not get a self cleaning litter box guess what you got to scoop out those babies and if your nose is super sensitive girl/boy get your self together cause it can get messy. So I mean so far it's an investment food, toys, litter box supplies. Don't forget where they are going to sleep and collars preferably with their name and phone number in case they get lost. But there is one expense no one warns you about: material things and furniture. Cats are curious and mischievous by nature. They will scratch curtains whether on purpose or simply because they are chasing a fly that sat there. Cats will specially kittens will scratch furniture specially if they do not have a specific place or thing they could use as a scratcher. I have personally have lost a couple shirts since Kimchi loves to scratch my shirt when he wants what I'm eating and Lychee has ripped a couple of my pants since she loves making biscuits on my pants.
And one very important thing just give them lots of attention and love them even when you know you are tired or have had a bad day since they don't know that and honestly could not care less. They want scratches and attention when they want it and not always when you feel like giving them love or until you feel like it. Form a good bond and do not be afraid to let them out to explore they are very curious and adventurous. Just like anyone else they don't love to stay inside all the time and they are smart creatures. They know how to get back. I understand it could be super scary and I am just talking out of our own experience. If you really do not feel comfortable letting them out, don't do it but when we first let them out we were terrified and we would let them out as kittens but we would be outside following them and watching them. We also tried to walk them like puppies on a leash that did not work out for us. They did not enjoy that and my sister was like fine you guys want to go out I will get them air tags. And she did she would constantly be looking where they were located and not gonna lie we didn't trust the whole process. We were also scared of all the other outdoor factors like dogs, cars and basically anything that could hurt the kittens. It was a learning process not just for us but also for them. They are babies in a dangerous world so I totally get the fear but I guess we eventually were like ok lets see what happens giving them total freedom. We needed to they were so curious they would try to escape every time someone would open the door. The outdoors was calling their name.
Days passed by and they would always come back so that is when we knew it was the right choice and we are happy just as much as they are enjoying their freedom. They come and leave back and forth and they could not be happier. One of them is even over exploring at this point he prefers being more inside the house now. Just remember kittens are like kids sponges and they learn and adjust to how you raise them and what you teach them. So be careful what you teach and good luck. I hope this helped.
